The area is internationally renowned for the Locarno Film Festival, Moonaqnd Stars, Jazz Ascona and Maggia Valley, the Gambarogno Botanical Gardens. Other highlights include the Falconeria, the sweet chocolate museum, the Monte Tamaro leisure park and the defiant castles of Bellinzona (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The Gambarogno, with its endless chestnut forests, is a popular hiking and biking area with a network of trails covering around 200 kilometres and within walking distance of the "La Baita" grotto, which was awarded 1st place in the "Best of Swiss Gastro" category in 2015 (www.grottolabaita.ch).
